"Oh Maybe"- Exhibit 3/6-15th

What does The Ghost in the Machine look like?
Scott Kildall and Victoria Scott invite you visualize this concept as a physical object.
The Ghost in the Machine is a phrase coined by British Philosopher Gilbert Ryle to describe the separation between mind (soul) and body. Popular culture has subsequently adopted the term to refer to other ‘invisible guides’ within economic systems and machines.
This new collaborative artwork, in the form of a relational physical installation, will be premièred at the upcoming show “Oh Maybe…”.
An expert philosopher will be at the opening event to answer questions and to help viewers depict this "imaginary object" in words and images. We will integrate the results into a physical installation.
Opening party and performances - Friday March 6th, 2009, 6 - 11pm.
Step into a recreation of Andy Warhol’s Factory and enjoy a night of art, performance and music including a Velvet Underground cover band, live silk screening, screen tests, and painting.

Admission is free.
Food and Beverage Sampling: $10 or $5 with valid student ID

Hallelujah: Cohen in Coachella Lineup

Updates on a few of our favourites - or should we say, iconic figures.

First up:
We have been waiting to see "Our Man" live, but until now, he was only touring dates in Canada.

Our prayers have been answered and LC, Leonard Cohen, is scheduled to take the stage April 17th at Coachella.

Here's a review of his recent show in NYC at the Beacon Theatre, where he played for over 3 hours.....eh, we will definitely be at the Coachella show.

SWEET!

We also congratulate Chef MC (Michael Chiarello) and Eileen on yet another inspired adventure - restaurant Bottega- which opened recently in Yountville (Napa Valley)

Seems that hard to please restaurant critic Michael Bauer was pleased and 'lusty'. His review here

Tim Weldon, Mixed Media Paintings
Weldon practices what might be called "a carnival
of folkloric figuration." As an artist with raw vision, Weldon’s vibrant, expressionistic and thought provoking works have gained him respect among artists, collectors, critics and the viewing public. He transcends the viewer into his imaginative world of passion-through flights of fancy and trials and tribulations. Throughout this journey of human emotion, Weldon’s energy and focus is directed by serendipitous exploration, uncovering dreamlike imagery and spirited movement.

Mark Mothersbaugh, Illustrations
During his downtime on early worldwide tours with DEVO, Mark Mothersbaugh began illustrating on postcards to send to his friends and family, which he still creates, and has been creating every day for over 30 years.
Mark explains "I’ve probably got around 30,000 of them filed away now….and I keep making more every day. The limited edition prints are my way of sharing these personal images with other people around the world.”

Joex2, urban artist
Previously limited to the underground subculture of municipal art, this past year he emerged with rapid fire in solo and group shows spanning from New York City to San Francisco. Learning the craft of fine art from his father, a painter and Trinidad native, Joe Joe’s talent is vastly displayed in his old school styles depicting everything from island flavor to cultural materialism.

Mitchell Glotzer, Photography
Although I enjoy all aspects of photography, I am passionate about both the experience and photographic results achieved through long exposure low light-night photography. The ability of the camera to accumulate light results in images which the human eye cannot duplicate.

Sofia Harrison, Glass Mosaic Assemblages
Harrison's work embodies the collective thought patterns of our society: fractured but connected, expressing the combat of individuality, encompassing desire, spirit and reason. Media: paper, words, glass, paint, discarded and found objects, glue and grout.

Smog Shoppe- LA

Miguel and Sherry from Marvimon have designed an amazing Green production event space in Culver City aptly named Smog Shoppe. Indeed a former shop of smog reduction, the space is private 6500 sq ft indoor and outdoor space, with cinephile quality surround sound, 20 foot digital cinema screen and is 100% solar powered.

Smog Shoppe is a great Sequel to their stunning existing event space in ChinaTown Marvimon, an old italian car dealership which they entirely revamped into an urban oasis, theatre and special events playground.

Both incredible inventive spaces. Stylish and professional, bravo!

Silly thing this, serious too, eh?

A Burning Man gourmet appetizer of visionary art, dancing, shrine creation, and elevating films, all tied together by a blasphemously reverent sermon. A SACRED UPROAR sung into being by Rob Brezsny .-.^.-. Is the SACRED UPROAR a medicine show or a revival meeting? A ritual designed to invoke ingenious love or an experiment in rowdy bliss? An invitation to worship deities that know how to laugh or a license to commit blasphemous reverence?

ROB BREZSNY is an aspiring master of curiosity, a macho feminist, and founder of the Beauty and Truth Lab. He writes "Free Will Astrology," a weekly column that has appeared in the Village Voice for over nine years, as well as in the SF Weekly and 120 other publications. Brezsny's latest book is "Pronoia Is the Antidote for Paranoia: How the Whole World Is Conspiring to Shower You with Blessings." Novelist Tom Robbins read it and said, "I've seen the future of American literature and its name is Rob Brezsny."

"something extraordinarily impressive"

AKA LollaPallooza (slang for)
Friends Anthony and Marcelo have reported in from the Windy City after the first day/night of the show - (pictured). Radiohead must have been amazing. Certainly Rage will be. RadioHead also did a bit from OK Computer - where our all time favourite No Surprises emerged.

Seems there's a rumor/possibility Barack Obama will show up at some point this weekend (w/Wilco). Homeboy, Kanye West and Nine Inch Nails dual it out closing the show. I heard Joe Escalante on his LA radio show (Indie 103.1) say he'd recently seen NIN and the show was off the hook.

Other, In Radiohead .............
This Found On Radiohead's Site re: Internet Neutrality -

RadioHead plays Golden Gate park Aug 22-24th, Outside Lands Festival

the lineup for this includes Tom Petty, Beck, Ben Harper, Wilco, Primus and many others.
